Heat to Sign Zydrunas Ilgauskas Next

July 14th, 2010 | by Rob Kelley |

Sorry, Cleveland, but we are not quite done raiding talent talent from your beloved Cavaliers.

I know, I know. This is actually getting pretty sad. And how must your owner, Dan Gilbert feel? After all, he did personally guarantee that your team would win an NBA title before the Miami Heat. If only he hadn’t hit the send button on that rant.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas is getting ready to join his friend and former Cavs teammate, LeBron James, and sign a two year deal with the Miami Heat. He has played his 14 year career in a Cleveland uniform. That will change come October.

The two-year deal would come with a player option for the second season, according to his agent. Playing with James was a huge factor in Ilgauskas’ decision. The two became good friends, and Ilgauskas would like to win a championship before he retires.

Ilgauskas is the Cavs’ career leader in games played, blocked shots and rebounds. For his career, Ilgauskas has averaged 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds.

He will be another nice piece to the Miami Heat’s championship puzzle.

That signing still begs me to ask the question…

Who’s next?

Good signing…. Big Z has good range for a big man. I don’t know how much money will be left after these next wave of signings. I hope they can find the money to bring back Joel Anthony and Carlos Arroyo.
