NBA Glue: The guys often overlooked and underappreciated.
October 20th, 2009 | by joshbaumgard33 |Anderson Varejao, CLE
The crazy-haired Brazilian might be the toughest big man in the league, and not to mention one of the dirtiest. Whether it is taking a charge, or snagging offensive rebounds at will, Varejao is worth every penny of the big extension (6 yr, $50 million) he signed this summer. He backs down from no one, and along with Shaq and Lebron will form one of the most intimidating front lines in NBA history.
Udonis Haslem, MIA
“U” is D-Wade’s muscle with Shaq long gone. You mess with Wade and you will likely run into a Haslem elbow to the chest or an “accidental” knee. Besides playing bouncer, Haslem is a phenomenal rebounder and also possesses a sweet fifteen footer, often used on the pick and roll.
Derek Fisher, LAL
The one guy not many talked about after the Lakers won the big one last season. What he does on the stat sheet, 9.0 points and 3.2 assists, doesn’t wow anybody and it shouldn’t because those numbers are merely average, or even below average for a starting point guard. What Fisher brings is a defensive tenacity and a knack for hitting the clutch shot. D-Fish will always find a home on an NBA squad as long as he chooses to play.
